Madera sophomore active in Howard 4-H

Ryan Ylarregui, 16, is a sophomore at Madera High School. He has been a member of Howard 4-H for seven years, where he is active in sheep, poultry, cooking, food preservation, public speaking, community pride, citizenship and leadership.

He has been the county winner in poultry for the past four years. His project consists of large breed and bantam Orpingtons, Old English, Cochins and Moderns. As part of his Emerald Star project he created a DVD to show poultry members in the county how to do poultry showmanship.

He spent his summer hatching out new offspring to add to his flock. He hopes to continue improving his show flock.

Ryan loves 4-H and all the opportunities that it offers. Besides showing sheep and poultry there are lots of other ways 4-H makes him feel more successful. Ryan had the opportunity to travel to U.C. San Diego for a State Leadership conference this summer. He met other 4-H members from all over the state, participated in leadership sessions and was motivated by dynamic speakers...
