Funding provides books to MUSD preschool libraries
The Madera Rotary Club has continued its long-time support of Madera Unified School District by providing grant funding to the district for the purchase of books for all preschool classrooms.
The grant was worth $1,800, and Rotarians fanned out around MUSD on Friday to deliver the books to schools. They also took time to read to preschool classes, as well.
The grant funding helps the MUSD preschool program meet its intent to create a lending library for all 12 classes. On Fridays for the rest of the school year, preschool teachers will work with families to support them in their efforts to build their child’s vocabulary and expressive training. These will be known as “Family Fridays.”
“We understand many of our students are monolingual and speak Spanish as they enter their preschool years,” said MUSD’s director of preschool programs, Dana Eckman. “By having a lending library in each class, we will provide families with the opportunity to check out books to take home and read to their child.” ...
