Opening ceremonies are planned for 9 a.m. Saturday to kick off Madera’s annual 24- hour get-together — the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life — where teams hope to raise more than $100,000 to fight cancer.
This is the 15th year of the community-wide event, where more than 50 teams and 1,000 citizens will walk around Lions Town & Country Park to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease and raise funds.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1981 color guard will present the colors after the opening ceremony and cancer survivors will walk the honorary first lap. There will be many activities to keep the walkers entertained during the 24-hour event.
In the morning a performance by the SpiritWarriors Native Drum Group is planned. Demonstrations ofMixedMartial Arts and Zumba Fitness will be offered by Thrive Fitness. Later, the Valley Thunder Drum Line and Mile High Karate will entertain overnight campers...
