Madera police on the hunt for drive-by shooters

A 22-year-old Madera woman was shot in the head earlier this week and police have asked the public for help in finding the shooters.

Detective Sgt. Robert Salas said a gang connection could be the reason the woman was targeted by the unknown assailants just before 11 p.m. Monday in front of her home on the 200 block of Park Street.

“It appears at this stage of our investigation there may be a gang connection,” Salas said. “We’re still working to confirm that, and we’re being diligent in our investigation to determine who was responsible for this.”

The victim was still being treated for the gunshot wound to her head Tuesday morning, Salas said, but she was not in critical condition and even spoke to officers when they responded to the shooting...
