Madera Police to collect Rx drugs Saturday

Madera residents can safely rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs by taking them to the Madera Police Department on Saturday.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Madera police will take medications for disposal at 330 South C Street. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Take It Back initiative. Last September, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. In its five previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2 million pounds —more than a thousand tons — of pills.
