Madera man injured in crash

A Madera man, who police allege was under the influence of alcohol, struck a power pole and took out a large irrigation stand pipe in a field on State Route 145, near Avenue 12 south of Madera, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 7:30 Tuesday night. The pole was sheared off but did not fall, according to witnesses.

Jose Tony Cardenas-Penaloza, 33, was alone in the vehicle and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was also cited for driving without a drivers license.

Officer Mark Cosentino said Cardenas-Penaloza sustained a broken leg and other injuries in the crash...
