Police suspect incident is gang-related

A Madera man was in stable condition at Fresno’s Community Regional Medical Center on Tuesday after being shot and seriously injured in a car crash while fleeing officers, according to Madera police.

Police said the 24-year-old man, Jorge Velasquez-Mina, was likely shot by rival gang members about 8:30 Monday night when he fired shots at a house or person in the 200 block of Santa Cruz Street.

Residents in the area are fearful of another outbreak of brazen shoot outs, where gangsters fire openly at each other in the streets.

“Not again. I thought it was over,” said one woman, referring to January 2010 where residents saw more than 20 drive-by shootings in the city...
