Students speak at ceremony
The life, legacy and famous dream of late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were celebrated by about 160 in Madera on Sunday who sang, prayed and spoke in a ceremony.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Local Host Committee, led by Ruth Henderson, started the King celebration even before he was honored with a national holiday. The event was also organized by Madera County Office of Education.
“It was amazing. I think it just gets bigger and bigger every year. There are no words to explain how we feel when we do this program,” Henderson said after the ceremony at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. “Madera on the whole is on the path of following Dr. King’s dream of treating everyone equally.”
