Before last week began, Rachel Lumactod was in second place in the Central Valley’s Top Talent contest.
However, after passing out fliers, singing at a carnival and appearing in an article in The Madera Tribune, Madera resident Lumactod received enough online votes to win the contest, officially announced Monday by sponsor KSEE-24 television.
“Last week, it was so stressful,” she said. “It was so crazy. I couldn’t imagine I would win because I was behind for so long. We were passing out fliers at McDonald’s and putting fliers on people’s cars. I was behind from day one. We kept reminding to people to vote and I tried to get myself advertised as much as I could. I didn’t want to let it go and give up.”
By Friday night, a surge in voting gave Lumactod her first lead of the competition and she wasn’t even aware of it...
