The completed expansion of the county jail drew about 150 people to see its new and renovated buildings after a dedication ceremony that included local and state officials as well as representatives of politicians.
The ceremony — held in front of the new building adjoined to the old jail built in the late 1980s — recognized the efforts of those who helped make the expansion happen, and include recognition by state senators Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, and Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, for the local department of corrections on Friday.
Chief of Corrections Manuel Perez of Madera County Department of Corrections accepted the certificates and praised his staff.
“We have done a lot with very little and that’s what means a lot to me because I couldn’t stand here if it wasn’t for all of you, doing what we have to do and being responsible to the community and doing what’s right,” he said...
