As part of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, the Madera Ministerial Association will host its annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and Senior Celebration, with a retired baseball All-Star from Fresno set to give the breakfast’s keynote speech.

Jim Maloney, 72, of Fresno, pitched for the Cincinatti Reds for 10 years, earning a 134-84 record along the way.

Maloney — who for several years after his 1971 retirement involved himself in rehabilitating drug addicts and alcoholics through various outlets — will speak inside the Madera Fairground’s Hatfield Hall as part of the breakfast, which will run from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and costs $12.50.

Mayor Robert Poythress will also speak and said that he looks forward to the breakfast every year...
