The first ever Veterans Dinner hosted by the Madera chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People did not get the turnout organizers hoped for, but changes in scheduling for next year’s event are already being considered to get better results, according to president Gloria Brown.
“This was a dinner for all veterans, but I heard that the Marines were having their ball tonight. So maybe that’s why we didn’t get many people out here,” said Brown. “If there are any other events happening around this time next year, we’ll have to change the date,” she said.
Still, she said the celebration was important to honor all those who served.
