To the applause from members of a record 75 teams, a weary but smiling Charlotte Brewer, chairwoman for the American Cancer Society’s 2013 Madera Relay For Life, took the stage Sunday morning and announced this year’s efforts had raised $116,000 thus far.
The annual 24-hour community-wide fundraiser, co-sponsored by Madera Parks and Community Services Department, was held at Lions Town and Country Park. According to American Cancer Society Staff Partner David Bond, the local Relay has raised more than $1.25 million toward the fight against cancer since moving to the park 12 years ago.
“This is a really great event in a wonderful setting,” said Bond.
