Organizations, a business and residents will celebrate International Women’s Day, which is observed worldwide today, through weekend events in Madera.
International Women’s Day aims to recognize the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future and is a reminder of still unresolved inequities.
The Friends of the Madera County Library, American Association of University Women and Thrive Fitness are set to host two events. Local residents, with the help of the Fresno-based Pan Valley Institute of the American Friends Service Committee, The James Irvine Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, also plan to hold a celebration to recognize the creativity of indigenous women.
