Local works to raise Crohn’s, colitis awareness

Robert Zewe busily greeted the many people who arrived this weekend for a second annual Barefoot Zumba Fusion fundraiser. Inside Josue Banda’s Williams Kenpo Karate studio on Howard Road, Zumba instructor Angela Adams-Garcia prepared for her Saturday morning class.

For a $10 donation, patrons were treated to an hour of Zumba as well as snacks and a chance at raffle prizes. The event raises awareness of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), which it benefits.

Zewe hopes to raise $3,200 to help CCFA’s efforts towards a cure for the diseases and in November will compete in the Rock ‘N Roll Las Vegas Half-Marathon, which draws more than 20,000 participants and is another CCFA fundraiser. Zewe will race on Team Challenge, a group of runners with ties to Crohn’s or colitis.
