Bottled water handed out as Parkwood well fails — again

Parkwood’s water troubles continued this week as the area’s dwindling well faltered for the fourth time in three months, and hundreds of residents had to rely on donated bottles for hydration when their faucets sputtered to a halt.

“This situation is dire,” said Johannes Hoevertsz, Madera County Public Works Director. “There’s hardly any water pressure there … it’s an emergency.”

On Tuesday, a portion of the area’s some 3,000 residents trudged to the brown, dead grass of Parkwood Park as county staff handed out cases of water provided by several local businesses.

With outdoor watering prohibited for months, inhabitants of the unincorporated subdivision and its 602 homes have been forced to watch as plants and lawns dwindle in the scorching summer sun — though some still break the rules...
