Local retired bishop dies

Open casket viewing and vigil services for the Rt. Rev. John-David Schofield, retired local bishop of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), will be 7:45 a.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday in Fresno, church officials announced Wednesday.

Schofield, who led a successful international breakaway from the Episcopal Church, died Tuesday.

“I — like so very many others — shall miss him terribly,” said the Most Rev. Robert Duncan, ACNA archbishop. “His spiritual depth twinned with his unparalleled sense of humor made him one of a kind.”

Schofield retired as the ACNA bishop for the Diocese of San Joaquin, which includes Madera, in the fall of 2011...
