Local high school bands win 2nd and 3rd in review

The bands from both local high schools who participated in this year’s field show competition over the weekend placed well in their corresponding categories.

The Heart of California Tournament of Champions included 13 school bands from throughout the Central Valley and West coast. It has been hosted every November in Madera for the past five years.

On Saturday, Madera High School and Madera South High School band and color guard teams spread out on the Lee DaSilva Field, trying to impress the judges, as their friends and families sat in the stands cheering them.

Both bands are considered medium-sized, with the MHS band being slightly larger. Their size determines what classes they compete in. MHS won second place in class 3A, and MSHS got third in class 2A...
