When Madera Irrigation District made its first delivery of crop water in 1945, 1993's Senior Farmer Franklin Secara was its lone ditchtender.

Born in 1912 in Fresno, Secara moved to Madera County in 1925.

The only honorary Senior Farmer ever selected by the Madera Chamber of Commerce served in its agriculture department when the Chamber was established.

What started out as a temporary assignment at MID for Secara became his entire career...
