Liberty valedictorian headed to Africa for summer

While many high school graduates will spend their summer on the couch watching TV or sitting by the pool, Liberty High School valedictorian Jacquelyn O’Keefe will be on another continent.

After O’Keefe graduated Thursday night with 115 other Liberty seniors, she will prepare for her next big adventure — a trip to Africa.

She’s traveling to Africa with a group called Project Glory to help caregivers of people with AIDS.

“We are taking wheelchairs and supplies for the caregivers,” O’Keefe said. “Instead of trying to fix the problem, we are enabling the people who are already there trying to fix the problem. I’m excited about that.” ...
