Fire crews continue to head home after weeks of battling a raging blaze in the Sierra National Forest, the U.S. Forest Service said Wednesday.

Personnel needed to fight the Aspen Fire — about 75 miles northeast of Fresno — sat at 1,474, a decrease of about 300 from Monday.

“With crews gaining the upper hand on the incident, they are being demobilized and made available for re-assignment if needed,” the update said.

Smoke remained a concern for the entire air basin including Madera, the update said, and sensitive individuals were advised to remain indoors and keep windows closed...
