At the Madera County Office of Education board meeting Tuesday, a trophy case will be dedicated in memory of Leon Bass, a member of the local Board of Education who passed away on April 30, 2013.
Bass supported programs for special needs and at-risk students and was also a devoted Chowchilla High School sports fan.
“With 39 years of dedicated service, he was a positive influence on the growth and development of the services and programs operated by the Madera County Office of Education,” said Cecilia Massetti, the county superintendent of schools. “He had seen many changes during his tenure but never wavered in his support and commitment to education. He had been an ardent supporter and generous contributor to the Academic Decathlon and sustained a steadfast commitment to youth.”
Bass served his country in the Korean War and was awarded his high school diploma as a member of the first Operation Recognition graduation class of 2004. His wife Evelyn Bass received her high school diploma in 2012...
