Around 40 people gathered for an intimate dinner earlier this week in honor of some of Madera’s most successful high school boys as part of the 21st annual Ken Taylor Boy of the Year Dinner.
Put on by Madera’s Kiwanis International chapter and held inside the Cedar Creek Senior Living Redwood Dining Hall, the dinner invited each of the club’s nine selections for Boy of the Month honors to choose a winner of the annual award which included a $1,000 scholarship.
“These are some truly outstanding students here,” said Ron Pisk, brother-in-law of Ken Taylor, the now-deceased Kiwanis member who brought the honor to Madera. “And they will all go on to do great things… One of you will be selected a winner, but all of you are a winner prior to that.”
All nine of the boys selected from both Madera and Madera South High School — all were seniors per the award’s conditions — earned top marks in class, competed in various sports from football to dance, took park in several clubs, one even completed his apprenticeship as a tattoo artist...
