Killings, shootings tied to local underground parties

Two killings and several shootings have been tied to underground parties in the last two months and the sheriff Monday urged parents to be watchful of their children’s whereabouts.

Teenagers and young adults have turned to social media and text messaging to organize and publicize parties where alcohol and narcotics are consumed by minors, said Sheriff John Anderson during a news conference.

Organizers call the large, non-permitted gatherings “fusion parties” and usually do not include the address in their publicity, but rather a phone number which potential attendees can either call or text to get the location.

They’re usually attended by at least 100 people whose ages range between 16 and 22 years old...
