Five junior bowlers from Madera have qualified for the Pepsi State Championships. The youth qualified in two tournaments held in November and January. They then advanced to the regional tournament and qualified for the state tournament.

The five bowlers, Mathieu Gittings, Daniel Karres, Joseph Ernst and Brian and Kayla Guthier are in the junior leagues at Madera’s Valley Bowl. Gittings currently holds the highest qualifying 3-game series in the state with 748 points.

Steve Gittings coaches the bowlers and Will Cummings is volunteer assistant coach.

According to Valley Bowl owner Patti Hoban, this is the first time Madera has had as many as five bowlers going to the state championships, held in different locales each year. Daly City in the Bay Area is hosting the event this year. The Madera bowlers have a chance at the tournament to qualify for the nationals held this year in Detroit.
