June 5 primary race attracts newcomers

The list of those seeking public office in the June 5 primary election has been finalized and released by the Election Division of the County Clerk-Recorder’s office.

In addition to other national and statewide races, the electorate of Madera County will vote for aspirants to United States Congress, State Assembly, Madera County Board of Supervisors, and Superior Court judgeships.

Seeking his second term in Washington, Republican Congressman Tom McClintock is running to represent the newly formed 4th Congressional District, which now includes Madera County. He is opposed by Democrat Jack Uppal, a retired business executive.

The 16th Congressional District, which also includes Madera County, has four candidates running against Democratic Congressman Jim Costa. They are Republicans Brian Whelan, a businessman and agricultural attorney from Fresno;Mark Garcia, a farmer and independent businessman; JohnnyM.
