After building burned by arsonist, Carolyn Voith transforms area in honor of late husband

An arsonist left a giant hole in downtown Madera in 2008 when he burned down the historic Voith building at 321 West Yosemite Ave.

Four years later, a new structure, the John Voith Plaza, occupies the prime location near the courthouse.

Carolyn Voith, who owned the original building with her late husband John Voith, said that the new building was her way of honoring her spouse, wellknown in local law enforcement circles. He served as a policeman for 38 years and a Madera marshal for another 16...
