Job Board will host a seminar

National Disability Employment Awareness Month starts today and the Madera County Workforce Investment Board is set to observe it, starting with a speaker and an event.

The national campaign raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities, according to the Office of Disability Employment Policy with the U.S. Department of Labor.

On Tuesday, the board is set to host a workforce seminar for employers titled “A diverse workforce: why it makes good business sense” where Lisa Jordan, a nationally recognized expert in the field of disability and workforce development, is set to speak. The seminar’s title goes along with that of the national campaign which is “A strong workforce is an inclusive workforce: What can you do?”

Jordan, a resident of the Los Angeles area, plans to speak about the Americans with Disabilities Act law and its direct impact on businesses, strategies for improving current hiring processes and making a plan for addressing workplace accommodations...
