The second annual Sam Armentrout, Jesse Owens Games Kick-off Rally in honor of the late mayor will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McNally Park.
Boys and girls ages 3 to 14 are eligible to register for the games featuring running, jumping and throwing events. According to games coordinator and city councilman Donald Holley, this is the twenty-sixth year for the games.
“We named the kick-off rally after Sam because he was so dedicated to the youth of Madera,” he said.
Practices for the games begin at McNally Park on Monday and will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the park. Holley and staff will be present to organize the practices...
