It’s time to ‘Love Madera,’ say local churches

Madera is set to join 40 California cities to do something Grace Community Church has already been doing for years, spend a day serving the community.

After observing churchgoers’ efforts, organizers of Love Modesto, which links volunteers to agencies or people in need, invited Madera to organize a day of service aligned with that of 39 other cities, said Mark Lacaze, the pastor of outreach and mission.

“Our church has been doing the same thing but smaller. We’ve called it ‘We Love Madera’,” said Lacaze.

In Modesto, the idea of residents committing a day to serve their community arose out of Modesto’s being on some of the “worst cities in America” lists in 2007, according to Love Modesto’s Web site...
