In the first week of summer, the local farmers market is sprucing up for the occasion with an island theme. The first 100 visitors to the event on Thursday will receive free leis. There will also be discount vouchers for the Island Waterpark given out and a waterballon toss. Music will be played by The Yard Dogs. As in the usual weekly sessions, themed rubber ducks will be given out. There will also be air brush tattoos.

The Network for a Healthy California, a statewide campaign to improve the health of low-income Californians through increased fruit and vegetable consumption and daily physical activity, will give a live food demonstration.

The farmers market, organized by First 5 Madera County and the Madera County Public Health Department, aims to increase the public’s access to fresh fruits and vegetables and offer health and nutrition education while local farmers and vendors sell their products to the community.

The farmers market is set to take place every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., except on the Fourth of July holiday, until Aug. 15 in Courthouse Park, at the corner of Gateway Drive and Yosemite Avenue...
