Independent Study Academy meets accreditation criteria

A committee that assesses schools has recommended a three-year accreditation period — the highest a school can receive for first time accreditation — for Madera County Independent Study Academy.

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges visited the Academy, operated by the Madera County Office of Education, in December to interview staff and review the program for accreditation.

The school is in its fourth year of operation and has 310 students in grades 3-12. Principal June Brooks-Powell and staff helped complete the self study report on the success of the school and the areas needing improvement.
