Improving health care: 2 groups honored for work in Madera

Two local organizations were honored by state and regional healthcare agencies Thursday for making services accessible to the underserved and creating a positive difference in the health and well-being of the community.

Camarena Health and the Head Start program operated by the Community Action Partnership of Madera County were chosen by local staff of Health Net Community Solutions to be recognized.

Along with the Community SolutionMakers Award, presented by Health Net Community Solutions Inc. and CalViva Health leaders, both organizations received $1,000 grants before nearly 75 people.

Christine Howland, the chief operating officer for Camarena Health, received the award on behalf of her organization and Maritza Gomez, the Head Start director for Community Action Partnership of Madera County, accepted the award on behalf of the program...
