A local youth group plans to host a screening of a video featuring stories of how locals migrated to Madera.

“Our Immigrant Story — Coming to Madera II” will include stories of families coming to the Central Valley from Italy and the Philippines, among several other places. The video was created by 12 members of the Madera Youth Leaders (MYL).

The aim of the organization is to promote leadership and civic participation through youth-led research, planning and advocacy. The group is part of the Madera Coalition for Community Justice (MCCJ), a nonprofit organization to educate and assist low-income residents.

High school and college students belonging to MYL worked on the project for a year, interviewing and gathering information from various residents in Madera County, and later editing and producing the video...
