For three hours on Saturday, Madera will see what one official called a “blitz of service” as more than 800 volunteers clean up school grounds, feed the homeless, and perform other acts of community service in the city’s third Love Madera event.

The event represents one of 40 Central Valley cities that have organized similar community service days under the “Love” namesake.

Volunteers — who by Thursday numbered nearly 850 in sign-ups at the Love Madera website — will meet at 9 a.m. in Town and Country Park before heading off to one of 13 different projects from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Everything from working with the Doors of Hope Pregnancy Center to planting trees at the Madera Dog Park will be part of the day’s spirit of community improvement...
