Health officials hope to post restaurant safety inspection reports on web by end of the year

In Madera, residents can dine at a restaurant without knowing how clean it is and if the food they ordered is in danger of bacterial contamination.

But in other parts of the state, placards featuring letter grades or colors tell consumers which restaurants are passing — and failing — food safety inspections.

Los Angeles County restaurants are required to post a placard in their windows displaying a letter grade from their most recent inspections.

Sacramento area restaurants have that same information displayed on green, yellow, or red inspection signs...
