House fire displaces family of five

A fire in the 800 block of Clinton Street damaged a two-story wooden home and displaced a family of five. No injuries were reported.

Madera County Fire Battalion Chief Jim Forga said the cause of the Monday fire remains under investigation but the blaze apparently started in the living room near a swamp cooler.

“The residents were home at the time and all got out OK. The house was full of heavy smoke. It was maybe 30 percent involved in flames on our arrival,” Forga said. “The living room was heavily damaged by fire, and the rest of the home sustained heavy damage from smoke.”

Fire crews were able to stop the fire from engulfing the approximately 2,000-squarefoot home and the home will likely be able to be repaired and rebuilt, according to Forga...
