Madera Community Hospital elected a woman physician as its chief of staff this year — a position that hasn’t been filled by a woman since 1981, officials say.

Sohaila M. Mojadaddi, M.D., will serve for one year as chief of staff, handling any complaints against physicians, promoting safe hospital procedures and helping to keep patients safe.

“I’m really proud of myself to be chief of staff in this hospital and as a woman I was honored,” she said. “I’m happy that they trust me to do this job well and handle this responsibility.”

As chief of staff, Mojadaddi acts as a spokeswoman and enforces all medical staff bylaws and ensures that everyone abides by medical rules and regulations, she said...
