Holiday DUI incidents increased

The number of people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during the Christmas holiday weekend increased locally and statewide, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eight people were arrested for alleged DUI’s between Dec. 21 and Tuesday in Madera, according to Mark Cosentino, the public information officer for Madera’s CHP office.

Last year, 5 arrests for alleged DUI’s were made during the same period in Madera, he said.

“It’s good that we were able to get that many off the streets but it’s not good that they were there in the first place,” said Cosentino...
