Holiday DUI checkpoint set for Saturday

The Madera Police Department announced plans Wednesday to hold a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.

Madera Police Department Sgt. Johnnie Smith said in a press release that announcing checkpoints to the public helped decrease alcohol-related crashes by as much as 20 percent.

Smith said that officers will stop drivers passing through the checkpoint and check for signs of alcohol or drug use.

“Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily,” Smith said...
