Drivers beware. The month of April has been designated by the California Highway Patrol for a statewide zero-tolerance education campaign on distracted driving.

Madera CHP will have all available personnel out in force and will be focusing on cell phone violations through month’s end to remind drivers to be safe behind the wheel.

Talking, texting or Googling the Internet behind the wheel will land you an expensive ticket, as one Madera woman found out this month.

Alyssa, 28, who did not want her last name used, said the ticket was the first one she had ever gotten and she was embarrassed by her mistake...
