Highway closures planned

State Route 99 will close to northbound traffic near Fairmead tonight and in both directions near Avenue 12 next week as part of continued improvements to the highway, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced Wednesday.

Beginning tonight at 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday morning, northbound traffic near Avenue 21 1/2 — including the connection to State Route 152 — will be diverted off the highway down Fairmead Boulevard to the on-ramp at Avenue 24.

That closure will also be in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday to July 18, as workers install new overhead signs, Caltrans reported.

Near Avenue 12, all north and southbound lanes will be shut off on separate nights — but during the same overnight times as the Fairmead work — as part of a larger improvement project to the area’s heavily-traveled interchange...
