Two sides of the California High-Speed Rail issue came together Tuesday at an official congressional hearing held at Madera Community College center.

The field hearing was organized by Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, who chairs House subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, and has been a vocal foe of the project.

Denham, who once represented Madera County until redistricting last year, said he brought the hearing to Madera in order to air questions and concerns about the rail.

“I think the Valley residents have a right to know what farms this is going to, how businesses will be disrupted, what the timeline is for construction … basically property owners should know what to expect in the future,” Denham said...
