Oakhurst festivities to kick off Yosemite events
The Yosemite National Park mounted ranger patrol will ride in Saturday's parade in Oakhurst, which is part of the town's annual Mountain Heritage Days set for Friday and Saturday. This year's celebration will focus on upcoming Yosemite anniversaries.
Touted as "the best parade in Eastern Madera County" by organizers, the procession will start at the Fresno Flats Historic Park, Road 427 and Indian Springs Road 418, at 10 a.m. and will continue down to Road 426 to Golden Oak Loop for the next hour. It will feature live bands, floats, horses, antique cars, trucks, and entries from service organizations and public service corps.
Meanwhile vendors, artisans and craftsmen will ply their trade at Fresno Flats park from 10 a.m. onwards. A silent auction will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., children's art activities from noon to 3 p.m., a cake walk every half hour from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., a Sluice Box Derby at 1 p.m., and parade awards presented at 2 p.m.
Wine and cheese reception with the Chambermaid Singers will be 4 to 5:30 p.m., a barbecue dinner with live music is planned for 5:30 p.m. and a door prize will be given away at 6:30 p.m...
