Eleven people were lauded Friday for excelling in their daily work of helping Madera County’s youngest residents be healthy, active and learning.

First 5 Madera County announced the winners of the 2013 Hands-On Hero Awards in the parking lot of its Family Resource Center in Madera.

Nearly 50 people gathered to see nominees and winners recognized. Honorees are voted by their peers for their demonstrated excellence and commitment to working with children up to 5 years old.
