It seems many Maderans hope to have a healthier 2012 by joining gyms and quitting cigarette smoking, according to local businesses.
George Rueda, a fitness coach at Bally’s Total Fitness in Madera said at least 100 new members have joined the gym in the last two weeks.
“We don’t ask them, but a lot of people say it’s their New Year’s resolution,” he said. “They say it’s for different reasons — some say to look good, for weight loss, to build mass, to gain strength, or to stay healthy.”
To target the New Year’s resolution crowd, Bally’s offered a special on membership rates in January. “It’s $59 to start and then $14.99 a month, or the year special is $179 for the whole year,” Rueda said.
