The Madera chapter of the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (PFSA) handed out its holiday donations of $300 checks and various canned goods earlier this week to promote community support and the spirit of the season.
On Monday, PFSA president Ludovina Silveira said the group gave a $300 check to the Holy Family Table at St. Joachim Catholic Church, the Madera Rescue Mission, and to victim’s services in the county for children who are victims of violence.
Along with the monetary donations, PFSA also holds an annual toy and canned food drive, with the items from each going to the Madera County fire and police departments, Silveira said.
“We do all this to share, to put it simply,” Silveira said. “We want to share with the less fortunate and share within the community to make it a stronger, better place to live.” ...
