Oakhurst resident and Fresno Police Sgt. Greg Noll has begun his campaign to become the new sheriff of Madera County.

Noll said in an interview with The Madera Tribune that it was the first time he had run for political office, but he had been thinking about the run for sheriff for the last four or five years.

“I felt the timing was now right, with the retirement of current Sheriff John Anderson at the end of his term in 2014. He’s done a good job, and begun a lot of terrific, successful (community) programs,” Noll said.

The candidate said he had informally met with Anderson in October of 2012 and had discussed the challenges facing law enforcement in Madera County and also was interested in hearing Anderson’s long-term plans and goals for the department...
