Nestled off of Friant Road in the Madera County foothills in a relaxed, beach-themed location sits a Valley food-service jewel that delivers a lot more than simple burgers and fries.

From the “Life’s a Beach Burger” — a 100 percent Angus beef patty soaked in house-made Teriyaki sauce atop a throne of pineapple and hand-seasoned cabbage — to the Hawaiian shaved ice, Sandals at the Beach Grill makes one thing clear; when you’re here, you’re in for fresh tastes.

And, since it opened in late July, the restaurant has already seen a wave of customers eager for more.

“It’s like an oasis out here,” said 17-year-old Albert Rodriguez as he enjoyed Fresno-State-brand ice cream, which the restaurant sells. “Kind of like a little slice of paradise.” ...
