Giveaways offered at grand opening of Dollar General

Madera’s newest discount retailer offered customers $500, tote bags, snacks and store specials during its grand opening.

Dollar General, 1200 S. Madera Ave., boasts an inventory of more than 10,000 items in which at least 1,900 are priced at $1 or less, said store manager Marissa Montelongo.

Based in Goodlettsville, Tenn., Dollar General Corporation is the nation’s largest small-box discount retailer and aims to offer convenience and value to customers by providing a focused selection of national name brands and private brands of food, health and beauty products, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies and basic apparel, said Crystal Ghassemi, a spokeswoman for Dollar General. The stores generally employ between six to 10 people, she said.

At the grand opening celebration on Saturday, management gave the first 50 people $10 gift cards and tote bags filled with samples to the first 200 people. They also hosted two beverage companies, who provided samples and gifts to customers. About 75 people attended, said Montelongo...
